We are excited to share that our PI Dr. Shelley Craig’s new book, The Nuts and Bolts of Affirmative CBT with Sexual and Gender Diverse Populations, has now been published by Oxford University Press.
Drawing on decades of clinical experience and research with LGBTQ+ communities, including developing and implementing AFFIRM, this book bridges what we know about minority stress, mental health, and resilience with what clinicians can do to support their clients effectively.
As a practical, accessible resource, this guide offers evidence-informed therapeutic strategies, case examples, clinical scripts, activities, and tools to support affirmative cognitive behavioural therapy with sexual- and gender-diverse youth and adults.
At a time when LGBTQ+ communities face growing social and political challenges, translating research into affirming, effective mental health care is particularly critical.
We hope this book helps clinicians implement affirmative practice confidently and competently. Digital copies are available now, and physical copies will be available on November 12, 2026.
Chapter 1 is currently free to read at https://academic.oup.com/book/63415 until November 4, 2026.
