Yael Perry

Discipline: Clinical Psychology & Public Health

Yael completed her Masters and PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of New South Wales (2011) and her postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania (2013) under the supervision of Dr Aaron Beck. Currently, she leads the Youth Mental Health team at The Kids Research Institute Australia in Perth and is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Western Australia and the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society, La Trobe University. She is Chair of the Australian Regional Network for the International Partnership for Queer Youth Resilience (INQYR). Yael’s research is focused on preventing mental health difficulties and promoting mental wellbeing in marginalised young people, especially LGBTQA+ youth. She works in partnership with young people, families, service providers, policymakers and other stakeholders to understand the factors that contribute to poor mental health and the ways in which mental health can be improved. Her research aims to collaboratively develop and implement evidence-based resources and interventions targeted to specific audiences, with a focus on using digital technologies to promote engagement and access. Yael is passionate about advocating for LGBTQA+ rights, and was an invited Expert Advisory Group member for Australia’s first national LGBTIQA+ Health & Wellbeing 10 Year Action Plan.
