Dr. Keith J. Watts

Discipline:

Social Work

Keith J. Watts, PhD, MSW, is an Assistant Professor in the College of Social Work at the University of Kentucky and an INQYR member since participating in the inaugural International Student Training Network cohort (2019). His research centers on identity-based community belonging and how it shapes the mental and physical health of sexual and gender minority populations, with particular depth in Black LGBTQ+ communities, minority stress processes, and intersectionality. He works across quantitative methods and qualitative approaches, and welcomes consultation on belongingness measurement, minority stress frameworks, and modeling community-level protective and risk factors. Current projects include the community-engaged Queer Kentucky public-health surveillance platform, LGBTQ+ cancer health equity, and the international and digital dimensions of queer youth resilience. He is glad to collaborate with students and faculty working on SGM health, community belonging, and community-engaged or mixed-methods research.
