David Puvan

Discipline: Social Work

Hello! My name is David Puvan, and I'm a Social Work PhD student at the University of Toronto. I completed my BSW and MSW in Singapore, where I was born and raised. My research lies at the intersection of multiple minority stress, critical consciousness, and arts-based interventions. As a Theatre of the Oppressed practitioner-scholar, I explore how relational and embodied theatre-based approaches can be used with racialized queer communities to engage with structural, interpersonal, and internalized forms of oppression. I am particularly interested in how participatory, and community-based arts approaches can foster dialogue, connection, and collective action. I enjoy connecting with others who are interested in critical qualitative inquiry, applied theatre, social justice, and community-engaged research
