Juan Carlos Mendoza Pérez

Dr. Juan Carlos Mendoza Pérez is a public health researcher and professor at the Department of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). His work focuses on LGBTQ+ health inequities, particularly the ways discrimination, violence, and structural conditions shape mental health, well-being, and access to healthcare among sexually and gender diverse populations.
Trained in biology, epidemiology, and collective health, Dr. Mendoza Pérez has more than 20 years of experience collaborating with civil society organizations across Mexico, including over 15 years of sustained work in Mexico City. His research combines epidemiological, social, and community-based approaches to generate evidence that can inform public policy and institutional change.
He founded the LGBT Health and Well-Being Research Line at UNAM and currently serves as Mexico Regional Co-Chair of the International Partnership for Queer Youth Resilience (INQYR). He is also a founding member and Secretary of the Mexican Academy of Sexual and Gender Diversity Studies (AMEDISEG).
Dr. Mendoza Pérez has collaborated with researchers from multiple countries, contributing to more than a dozen publications focused on Mexican LGBTQ+ populations and contexts. His work seeks to connect international perspectives with local realities to expand interdisciplinary approaches to research on sexual and gender diversity. He is open to collaborations with students, early-career researchers, and established scholars interested in LGBTQ+ health and well-being in Mexico and Latin America.
