The International Partnership for Queer Youth Resilience (INQYR): Creation, Development and Preliminary Results from Four Regional Networks

This symposium will outline and share the power of community and academic networks to affect social change for Gender and Sexual Minority youth (GSMY) through The International Partnership for Queer Youth Resilience (INQYR). INQYR is a 7-year Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) funded interdisciplinary partnership designed to increase the well-being and resilience of GSMY youth and young adults through the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) within diverse global contexts, while also training the next generation of scholars and practitioners working with LGBTQ+ youth through the International Student Training Network (ISTN). This presentation will commence with a foundational discussion by the Principal Investigator (Craig) outlining how this innovative partnership with academic and community partners was established, its aims and objectives, and its progress towards the production of novel regional and international research to benefit GSMY while training of the next generation of LGBTQ+ scholars to collectively amplify research impact. Subsequently, five papers outlining research conducted in each of the 4 partner regions and one cross cultural study will be discussed by representatives of each of the regional network. Partners from Canada, the United States, Mexico and the United Kingdom will deliver papers that apply ICT facilitated data collection methods such as online interviews and mixed methods internet surveys to explore identity and experiences. All five papers have yielded results that further elucidate how LGBTQ+ youth make use of online technology, the discrimination they face, and youth resilience.
