In Memoriam: Prof. Jeremy Goldbach

Dear INQYR family and supporters,

We are deeply saddened to share the news that our dear colleague and friend, Prof. Jeremy Goldbach, passed away on Saturday, June 7th, 2025 of cancer at the age of 42.

Jeremy had been with INQYR since its inception in 2017 as a co-applicant on the SSHRC Partnership Grant, which has funded our work for the last 7 years. He served as chair of the doctoral committee of two of our ISTN trainees in the US Regional Network, Ankur and Rory, and co-authored publications with members of our Australian Regional Network. Jeremy also made a significant contribution to student training at our in-person event in September 2022, INQYRIES, where he mentored the second cohort of the ISTN in his training, Lemons or Lemonade: Stumbling Towards a Career in 2SLGBTQ+ Youth Research—praised by our trainees for the safe, intimate, and empowering learning space Jeremy created.

Despite his declining health—and in the face of targeted NIH grant terminations in the USA —Jeremy continued to be deeply engaged in research to advance his mission of improving the wellbeing and mental health of our sexual and gender diverse communities, modeling the resilience that he strived to build. In recognition of the excellence Jeremy brought to his work, he was named as a Fellow of the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare at the Society for Social Work Research Annual Conference in January, 2025.

Shelley Craig noted,” Jeremy’s intellect and curiosity were inspirational and only rivalled by his incredible sense of humor. He left an indelible mark on all of us”. We and many others will greatly miss Jeremy’s energy, humour, and joy.
